South Dakota Trophy Archery Pronghorn Antelope Hunts are an adventure that our outfitter has specialized in for years. What makes this hunt really unique is that his preferred and favorite method is SPOT & STALK OVER A DECOY DURING THE RUT. This has proven to be not only a very effective hunt but also action packed and tons of fun. We can also possibly arrange for the more traditional hunt out of a blind on water or sitting a fence crossing if needed. Our outfitter has taken several speed Goats over decoy himself and is an avid bowhunter. Antelope hunting is one of our favorite hunts with this outfitter, something every big game enthusiast should experience. From the wide-open grasslands they call home to their unique defense mechanisms, Antelope present hunters with an appealing set of challenges seldom seen with other big game species. Freely roaming herds of 20-100 Antelope constantly catch your eye along the hillsides of over 30,000 plus acres of private and leased land. You and your guide will look over one herd, if you don't find what you like; then it’s time to move over the hill and glass the next herd. Distance is deceiving and some shots can really test your skill, but there will be a shot opportunity. Most times we can eventually get stalked within a reasonable bow range for a clean shot. Previously harvested bucks have averaged 14 1/2” to bucks into the 17” inch range and scoring an average of 72" P&Y. From getting out in the field, locating bucks and closing the deal, South Dakota Antelope hunting is an experience unto itself. With the large numbers of Antelope, there has never been a better time to pursue the numerous bucks that call the South Dakota prairie and grasslands their home. Tag’s are readily available for the archer (this is a guaranteed license) in SD. The archery season begins around the 3rd weekend of August and starting September 1st your bowhunt can also be combined with either Mule Deer or Whitetail for even more excitement as both species are plentiful in the beautiful state of South Dakota. Pronghorn Antelope hunts are 4 days long and over that time there will be plenty of action. With the primary method being spot & stalk over decoy things can happen very quickly. You can glass a good buck out a couple of hundred yards away and then throw up the decoy and blink a couple of times to see he has closed in on you and is on a dead run about 50 yards out and closing. It’s best to practice shooting from your knees and being prepared for a faster shot then you would normally have on some other species. We can’t emphasize enough to practice shooting in the situations you will be hunting in as it can make or break your hunt ending with a P&Y CLASS ANTELOPE AND A TAXIDERMY BILL! So practice, practice, practice for this one.

Trophy quality is very good and having 4 full days to take your TROPHY PRONGHORN will give you plenty of time for a shot opportunity. All meals, lodging, airport pickup and return to Rapid City, and trophy prep are included in your hunt. Spot’s are very limited as this is a small family run operation so typically this outfitter offers between 6 and 8 Antelope hunts per year for the serious bowhunter to enjoy. This is a highly successful hunt and as we have discussed it’s A LOT OF FUN.
